Sherwood Forest is situated in Nottinghamshire close to the Trent River, a natural boundary between the industrial North and South of England. Positioned by the artist as a living archive, this dark and ancient forest is a source of perennial beauty and a storehouse of stories dating back to the last Ice Age. However, the language and grammar of the forest is mute and incomprehensible to the human ear. To counter the artist’s lament, walking became a way of accessing, communing-with, engaging, and visually reflecting on texture, atmosphere, affect and mood of the forest.
